The Curious Case of the Dog at Night-time (Point of View)

~Author's Note: The was a homework assignment in LA about writing about the point of view taken inside our book, The Curious Case of the Dog at Night-time.

In the crazy bok of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time", the story is narrated by 15 year old Christopher. I believe the story was best written by Christopher as he is autistic which adds an interesting twist to the story, and that he adds observations that other people wouldnt. You can see the emotions of Christopher in his writing; the sadness of seeing Wellington dead, the anger aimed at his father, and joy of learning that his mother was alive and well.

In the view of the father, the book would be completely different in the voice and observations. The events might be the same, but it would be a more boring view. It would also be a darker story as the father lies a lot to Christopher and keeps a lot of secrets, some that are good, and many that are bad.

The fighting force in this book, the police, would be terrible narrating. The werent in enough of the scenes to know what was going on and they would all be acting with a "valor". There might not be much emotion, except for when they learn about the dog and Christopher's predictament.

All in all, Christopher was the best possible choice as he made an interesting turn on things.

  1. Can you give some examples of the way Christopher's point of view affects our interpretation of the story? What are we missing? What does Christopher misunderstand?
