Forest Experience

As I sat on the pitch-black, volcanic warm rock thinking, squirrels jumped past me in a blur of sound and golden fur. One paused and chittered at me before leaping off to join his brethren. A leaf's dappled reflection caught my attention as I turned my head. As I looked more closely, I made out a praying green mantis glaring at me in the tree of which it was hiding in. The sounds I heard were of a variety of birds chirping and hooting out at each other and frogs with high and low pitched croaks and groans. Far away, there was a dog barking at a cat and nearby you could hear the long grass rustling as the gentle wind blew away the small insects, chirping out in distress.

Suddenly, a majestic deer jumped over a bush and almost onto me. It jerked back in surprise as I simply sat there, as if to say, "Sorry." My breath caught as he stood in the bright golden rays, the sunlight dancing in his eyes. I tentatively stretched out a hand to his glossy chestnut coat, wanting to touch it and feel the warm bristles of fur underneath my hands. After two seconds of me stroking the magnificent beast, he pranced around the clearing, slow enough for me to be beside him. I threw my head back, laughing, about the young buck's antics. Slowly, he began to run faster and faster, so fast that I could not keep up. I then sat back dizzily on my rock and watched him flash past. He suddenly vanished. I had no idea where he went, where he left, or how he left. I called out and searched for him, yet no answer came willingly forth. Finally, as I looked up at the sky of a setting yellow sun and vibrant pink and orange clouds, I was forced to give up as it would soon be too late to search. I reluctantly walked home, all the while looking behind me for any last movements.

It was pitch-black outside my window when I finally jumped into bed and thought about the day's events. As I was thinking, I knew in my bones that someday I would find that buck again. I just knew it. And with that thought, I turned off my lamp on my nightstand and laid down to rest under my bright blue covers.
